Irish Open moved to 1-4 July 2027 as DP World Tour publishes schedule

The DP World Tour has moved the Irish Open to 1-4 July 2027 at the K Club, the tour said as it released its 2027 schedule. The change was made because the Ryder Cup is scheduled for 17-19 September.

Shane Lowry, who won this year's Irish Open at Doonbeg last week by 11 shots, is expected to defend his title at the K Club next year. The Irish Open had previously been held in July before switching to September in 2023. Next year's staging at the K Club will come before the Scottish Open and the Open Championship.

The tournament was moved to accommodate the Ryder Cup at Adare Manor, with the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth to be played the week following the biennial contest between Europe and United States at Adare Manor in Ireland. As a result of the calendar adjustments, the French Open will move to 7-9 September.

When asked about the Irish Open's new date during last week's tournament, McIlroy told BBC Sport NI: "I'll obviously be there, I'll play," and added: "Field wise, we'll see, I'm not sure. The Scottish Open will be the week after and a lot of guys are probably going to play that. "But I get it. The Ryder Cup's in Ireland next year and something had to give."

The DP World Tour's 2027 schedule features 42 tournaments in 24 countries and includes the returning Hong Kong Open, the Singapore Open and the Open de Portugal. The season begins this year at the Australian PGA Championship in Sydney on 26-29 November and will conclude with the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai on 11-14 November 2027.

The Irish Open's new July dates place it at a key point in the European Ryder Cup qualifying process, which will conclude at the British Masters on 22 August.
