Isack Hadjar likely to miss Dutch GP after wrist injury; Liam Lawson reported as stand-in

Red Bull Racing driver Isack Hadjar suffered a wrist injury during a gym session over F1’s summer break and, according to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, faces serious doubt over his participation in this weekend’s Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort; a final decision on his availability has not yet been made, though being ruled out currently appears most likely.
The report says Hadjar sustained the injury while preparing for the Zandvoort race after the summer break that began following the Hungarian Grand Prix, and teams are now completing preparations for the Dutch GP this weekend as speculation about his replacement grows.
De Telegraaf adds that Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson is ready to step into Hadjar’s seat and partner Max Verstappen at Zandvoort if Hadjar is declared unavailable, which would return Lawson to the Red Bull operation after his demotion last year from Red Bull to Racing Bulls following two races.
Lawson’s initial introduction to F1 also occurred at the Dutch Grand Prix three years ago, when he was called up after then-AlphaTauri (Racing Bulls) driver Daniel Ricciardo suffered a broken hand in a practice crash.
The potential reshuffle outlined in the report would see Yuki Tsunoda move back to Racing Bulls to replace Lawson; Tsunoda had a brief promotion to Red Bull last year in which he replaced Lawson, and at the end of 2025 Tsunoda was in turn replaced by Hadjar, who became test and reserve driver for both Red Bull and Racing Bulls.
The 2026 Dutch Grand Prix is scheduled to be the final F1 race at Zandvoort, with the circuit set to leave the Formula 1 calendar after this season; the pending decision on Hadjar’s fitness will determine whether Lawson races at Zandvoort this weekend.
