Isack Hadjar to return for Azerbaijan Grand Prix after wrist injury

Isack Hadjar will return to Red Bull's race line-up for this week's Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, which runs from 24-26 September, after missing the previous three rounds with a wrist injury.

Hadjar, a 21-year-old Frenchman who was promoted to Red Bull's senior team in 2026, sat out the races in the Netherlands, at Monza and in Madrid while Liam Lawson stood in for him. New Zealand's Lawson covered those three events on Hadjar's behalf.

Red Bull said Hadjar sustained the wrist injury while boxing and has made a "full recovery," adding that he will replace Lawson for the Baku round. The team issued the statement confirming the change ahead of the Grand Prix.

Red Bull paid tribute to Lawson's contribution during Hadjar's absence, saying: "The team would like to sincerely thank Liam for his professionalism, dedication and hard work over the past three races." The outfit continued: "Stepping in under challenging circumstances, he delivered some impressive performances and made a valuable contribution to the team."

Lawson, 24, finished seventh in Zandvoort and sixth in Madrid but failed to score at Monza after coming 14th. Following Hadjar's return, Lawson will move back to Red Bull's junior squad, Racing Bulls.

Hadjar will resume racing alongside four-time world champion Max Verstappen and sits eighth in the drivers' standings, having scored 71 points this season.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix takes place in Baku from 24-26 September, where Hadjar will reclaim his seat for Red Bull.
