Liverpool ended Brighton’s four-match winning run with a Premier League victory at Anfield on 25 October 2026, Alexander Isak converting what proved to be the decisive strike as he recorded his sixth league goal of the campaign.

Andoni Iraola’s side produced their first convincing home Premier League performance of the season, with the manager’s methods appearing to take hold as Florian Wirtz, Isak and Bradley Barcola combined effectively across the pitch.

The opening goal came from a sequence involving Wirtz and Ronald Araújo. Wirtz held off Lewis Dunk and Araújo reached the loose ball ahead of Dunk and Oliver Boscagli; Araújo’s low cross ricocheted off two Brighton players before returning to Wirtz, whose first-time effort deceived Bart Verbruggen after a deflection off Pascal Gross. The strike was officially recorded as an own goal by Gross, and it represented Wirtz’s second goal in successive matches.

Brighton had an earlier opportunity to take the lead when Diego Gómez and Gross combined to find Yasin Ayari with Alisson pulled across; Ayari lifted his chance over the Kop. That miss preceded Liverpool’s opening breakthrough.

Liverpool doubled their advantage after sloppy defending from Boscagli following an Alisson clearance. The goalkeeper’s long ball landed at Barcola’s feet; operating on the right, Barcola shrugged off Boscagli and delivered for Isak, who side-footed the ball into the far corner. The finish completed Isak’s run of scoring in three consecutive league games for the first time since January 2025 and was Liverpool’s first first-half Premier League goal at Anfield this season.

Boscagli was withdrawn at half-time and Brighton pushed harder after the interval, but Virgil van Dijk, Araújo and Jérémy Jacquet made key interventions that restricted clear chances. Alisson’s risky pass to Alexis Mac Allister allowed Brighton to regain possession and Ayari struck a post from 20 yards; substitutes Jack Hinshelwood and Malick Yalcouyé added energy but the visitors were hampered by overhit crosses and poor final balls.

The result lifted Liverpool to fourth in the Premier League table and brought an end to Brighton’s run that had taken Fabian Hürzeler’s side into third before kick-off; that four-game sequence had produced 15 goals and no goals conceded.
