Ishan Om’s five-for puts India U-19 in command after Blake Cattle’s century at Rajkot

India under-19 seamer Ishan Om took five wickets as Australia under-19 were dismissed for 217 on the opening day of the first Youth Test at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Sunday; Blake Cattle scored 102 and India finished the day 8 for no loss.

Australia, who won the toss and elected to bat, were in early trouble after pacers Mohit Ulva and Ishan struck up front; Hayden Barbulovic, Neel Patel and Matthew Lough failed to get going, leaving the tourists 27 for three before a rebuilding stand began.

Blake Cattle, walking in at 27 for three, compiled 102 (198b, 7x4) while Zed Hollick contributed 59 (160b, 7x4); the pair added 147 for the fourth wicket as they steadied the innings.

Mohit Ulva eventually broke the partnership when he had Hollick caught behind; Cattle reached his hundred to a standing ovation but was dismissed by Yashbardhan Chauhan soon after, after which Australia lost its last six wickets for 43 runs.

Ishan returned later in the innings to complete figures of five for 53 and Yashbardhan Chauhan finished with two for 56, with Mohit Ulva finishing on three for 37; India were also hampered when bowler Pranav Ragavendra suffered an injury and could bowl only 10 overs.
