ISL 2026-27 Phase 1: FC Goa to open at Fatorda against Chennaiyin on October 10
On September 30, 2026, the Phase 1 fixtures for the Indian Super League 2026-27 were published, confirming FC Goa will begin their campaign at the Fatorda Stadium against Chennaiyin FC on October 10. The release covers the initial portion of the season; remaining dates will be added once the subsequent phases of the ISL 2026-27 schedule are announced.
The 2026-27 ISL will return to a home-and-away format with 13 teams competing in a double round-robin league that is scheduled to run until May 2027, providing a longer campaign than the previous edition. FC Goa enter the season aiming to balance continuity and change after retaining the club’s core footballing philosophy while overhauling parts of the coaching staff and playing squad. During the disrupted 2025-26 campaign several foreign players — David Timor, Iker Guarrotxena, Javier Siverio and Borja Herrera — left the club, leaving Goa with just two foreigners when the ISL eventually started. Despite that disruption the Gaurs finished seventh with 20 points from 13 matches and remained in the title race until Matchweek 10, and they also won the AIFF Super Cup by defeating Mumbai City FC in the semi-final and beating East Bengal FC on penalties to claim a third Super Cup title.
Gouramangi Singh has been appointed FC Goa’s head coach ahead of the 2026-27 ISL season. Singh joined the club’s coaching staff in 2022, spent four seasons as an assistant coach and worked alongside Manolo Marquez for the past three seasons; he was involved in the team’s technical planning and playing identity before his promotion. The club described the appointment as continuity with the existing footballing approach while tasking Singh with integrating several new players into the squad.
FC Goa have stated their recruitment focus prioritises players who fit the club’s style and culture rather than pursuing high-profile names. That recruitment strategy is intended to align new arrivals with the playing identity the coaching staff developed during Singh’s time as assistant.
FC Goa’s Phase 1 ISL fixtures list begins with the October 10 home match against Chennaiyin FC, whose squad includes former FC Goa players Brison Fernandes and Ayush Chhetri and whose head coach Clifford Miranda has prior association with the Gaurs. The Gaurs will then host Sporting Club Delhi on October 28, travel to Inter Kashi on November 1, return to Fatorda to face Bengaluru FC on November 6, travel to Guwahati to play NorthEast United FC on November 21 and visit Odisha FC on December 9; a December 13 fixture against Churchill Brothers at the Fatorda Stadium is also included in Phase 1.
Churchill Brothers have entered the ISL after taking over Jamshedpur FC’s sporting licence, subject to the required regulatory approvals, meaning Goa will have two clubs from the state competing in the top division. The December 13 meeting at Fatorda will be the first-ever ISL fixture between FC Goa and Churchill Brothers.
FC Goa will also compete in the AFC Challenge League after their AFC Champions League Two campaign ended at the preliminary stage; they have been drawn in Group C alongside Kuwait’s Qadsia SC, Bangladesh’s Fortis FC and Tajikistan’s Regar-TadAZ, with the group-stage matches scheduled to take place in Kuwait. The remaining Phase 1 and later-phase ISL fixtures will be published when the league releases the subsequent phases of the 2026-27 schedule.
