Ivan Toney appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday morning and pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault causing real bodily injury linked to an alleged nightclub incident on December 6, 2025. The court set a provisional trial date for June 12, 2028.

Prosecutors say Toney struck and headbutted Sabre Da Silva after an altercation at the 100 Wardour Street club on Wardour Street in central London on December 6, 2025. He arrived at court at around 9:10 a.m., wearing grey slacks, black sunglasses and a button-up jacket over a shirt and tie. Following the brief hearing he was released on unconditional bail.

Judge Christopher Hehir informed the defendant he was "sorry" for the delay during the five-minute hearing. He set a provisional trial date for June 12, 2028. The judge added: "That’s a long way in advance and I’m sorry about that. As you may know, the crown courts are operating under a great deal of pressure. We have got a massive backlog of work for various reasons."

Toney has 10 international appearances and scored one goal while playing for England at the FIFA World Cup 2026 this summer. He was left off the most recent roster for the nation’s UEFA Nations League matches.

Before joining Brentford in 2020, Toney played for Newcastle United and Peterborough after beginning his career with Northampton. He scored 72 goals in his four years with the Bees and made an unexpected move to the Saudi Pro League team Al-Ahli in 2024.

The next confirmed step in the case is the provisional trial at Southwark Crown Court on June 12, 2028; Toney remains on unconditional bail following the hearing.
