Shreyas Iyer told the Times of India on 21 October 2026, during India vs New Zealand coverage, that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi "can't walk in right now" and "has years to get opportunities".
Iyer pointed to seasoned openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson being in fine form. He said the experience Sooryavanshi gained from prior tours will significantly aid his growth and stressed the importance of nurturing a comfortable team atmosphere for the player's continued development.
