Jack Campbell confirmed he has full movement in his lower body and is making progress with upper-body movement after sustaining a neck injury in the Detroit Lions' NFL game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. The Lions said on social media, on behalf of the 26-year-old linebacker, that he is "very optimistic".

Campbell was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2023 and is 26 years old. He was taken to hospital after he was struck in the head during the game.

The Lions released a statement on social media on behalf of Campbell that included his comments: "I'm incredibly encouraged by the progress I've made in such a short period of time," "I have full movement in my lower body and I'm continuing to make progress with movement in my upper body. "I know there's still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic."

Campbell also thanked coaches and medical staff for their care, as well as the messages of support that he and his family have received. He said the city is "built on toughness, resilience and grit" which will be his attitude towards his recovery.

He was taken from the pitch on a stretcher after he hit his head while tackling tight end TJ Hockenson in the fourth quarter. Campbell received medical assistance before being removed from the field, having been lying face down on the ground.

Campbell said: "I'm taking things one day at a time, staying positive and focusing on getting better."
