Jaglan wins Coal India Open at Tollygunge Club with final-round six-under 64
Shubham Jaglan closed with a six-under 64 to win the rain-curtailed, 54-hole Coal India Open at the Tollygunge Club on Friday, securing his maiden professional title by two shots.
The par-70 event was reduced to 54 holes after rain; the 21-year-old from Panipat totaled 14-under 196 to collect ₹15 lakh at the ₹1 crore tournament.
Jaglan entered the final round tied-fifth and was backed on the bag by his father-cum-caddie Jagpal. He dropped a shot at the start but maintained his composure throughout the round. That steadiness under pressure helped him stay in contention as the round progressed.
He finished the day with an eagle, six birdies and two bogeys to erase a four-shot deficit. Jaglan’s aggressive play yielded a crucial gain on the 18th, which proved decisive in overturning the margin. His finishing run produced the two-shot winning gap.
Jaglan had first made headlines as a junior a decade ago and later graduated from the University of South Florida. He said he relied on his experience of American college golf to adopt an attacking approach during the final round. That strategy contributed to his late surge.
“I was nervous over the last few holes. I’m proud of the way I finished,” said Jaglan, coming from a family of wrestlers.
Jamal Hossain was runner-up on 198. OoM leader Saptak Talwar (67, 65, 70) finished joint-11th. The scores (third round): 196-Shubham Jaglan (67, 65, 64); 198-Jamal Hossain (65, 63, 70); 200-Akshay Sharma (66, 65, 69) and Shaurya Bhattacharya (64, 70, 66); 201-Rashid Khan (68, 66, 67), Kshitij Naveed Kaul (64, 66, 71), Yuvraj Singh (67, 68, 66), Arjun Sharma (65, 68, 68), Badal Hossain (65, 68, 68) and Om Prakash Chouhan (62, 70, 69).
Jaglan received his cheque and trophy from Mr. Amandeep Johl, CEO, DP World PGTI, Mr. Hitesh Gurtu, captain Tollygunge Club, and Brig. Ganapathy, CEO, Tollygunge Club, with his father Jagpal Jaglan also present in the presentation photo. The victory moved him up 12 places to 14th on the DP World PGTI Order of Merit.
