Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle said on Monday, after his side's 1-0 home defeat by Everton, that he had "got more of a feeling from within the club" about how "committed" they are to him, as supporters booed at full-time.

Jaissle, who took over in the summer following Eddie Howe's departure, faces a difficult run of results that has left Newcastle 13th in the top flight with 11 points from nine games. The defeat by Everton followed their exit from the Carabao Cup to the same opponent and extended a sequence in which the club have recorded just two wins from their last seven matches. That run has included defeats by Leeds United, Coventry City and Aston Villa.

Asked whether he had felt pressure on his position, the 38-year-old said: "I try to not follow things that are written but here and there you get some comments." He added: "The nice part is that I got more of a feeling from within the club about how committed they are and that is something really important in a week where there is speculation or rumours." He also said: "It was good to know, good to feel but I try again in these aspects not to be distracted."

In his post-match news conference Jaissle said his players had not followed the "plan" during the Everton game. Ahead of their trip to Fulham on Saturday (15:00 GMT) he expressed confidence that the squad understood his approach and were aligned with his ideas.

"Yes, for sure. That is always good to see. That is the fundamental thing in the process at the moment that we can count on is the unity and togetherness," he said, describing the team's collective state. He emphasised the group dynamic and communication channels within the squad.

"We have such a good group and such a good relationship already that again, the door is always open and if anything is unclear they are more than welcome to talk about it," Jaissle said, adding: "When you see them in training and see how we are doing, I am pretty sure that everyone understands and are fully committed."

Newcastle travel to Fulham on Saturday (15:00 GMT).
