Jamal Musiala collapses during Bayern Munich friendly after scoring

Jamal Musiala collapsed during Bayern Munich’s friendly against RB Leipzig in Munich on August 17, 2026, just minutes after scoring, the club reported. The 23-year-old came off the bench and had netted in the 81st minute of Bayern’s 3-1 victory before the incident occurred.
Musiala, Bayern and Germany’s attacking midfielder, had been on the pitch for only around 15 minutes when he went down and required attention from medical staff from both teams. He eventually regained his feet, walked toward the tunnel unassisted while appearing visibly shaken, and was substituted in the 88th minute.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl moved to reassure supporters after the match, saying: "The most important thing is that he is fine. There is nothing to say about anything else." A Bayern board member for sport also offered a brief update, saying, "The main thing is that he's OK." The club did not provide further details about the cause of Musiala’s collapse.
Reports in Germany suggested Musiala experienced sudden dizziness during the match, and temperatures in Munich had climbed above 30 degrees Celsius. Bayern have not confirmed the cause of the episode and are expected to monitor his condition.
The timing of the scare revived attention to Musiala’s recent injury history: he suffered a serious leg injury during Bayern’s Club World Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain last summer, including a fractured fibula, and spent several months on the sidelines before returning to action in January. He was also part of Germany’s 2026 World Cup campaign and had recently returned to group training after following an individual rehabilitation programme.
Musiala had cut short his summer break to focus on returning to full fitness and has been managed carefully by Bayern as he worked back toward his best. For now, early signs are positive and Bayern will monitor his condition as they determine whether the episode was a temporary reaction to the heat or dizziness rather than another setback for a player they are counting on heavily this season.
