Jana Fernandez signs new London City contract until 2029
Jana Fernandez has signed a new contract with London City, the club announced on 16 September 2026, extending her stay until 2029. The 24-year-old joined the club from Barcelona in August 2025.
Since her arrival a year ago Fernandez has become a regular for manager Eder Maestre, playing in every Women’s Super League match last season as London City finished sixth in their debut campaign in the top flight. Her displays at right-back earned her the fans’ vote as the club’s player of the season.
"I'm absolutely delighted to sign a new contract here at London City," said Fernandez. "When I arrived in England one year ago I joined this club with dreams for the future. "Potential, excitement and progress are three words I associate with the club and I'm pleased to commit my future. I feel at home and settled here. "We are building something special together, as players, staff and fans, and I can't wait to play my part."
Before moving to England Fernandez spent her career at Barcelona, where she graduated from the club's academy and became a five-time league champion. During her time at Barcelona she also won the Champions League and the Copa de la Reina three times.
Fernandez was part of the Spain team that finished runners-up to England at Euro 2025. At London City she has been joined by former Barcelona team-mates Alexia Putellas and Mapi Leon, with Putellas identified in the club statement as a two-time Ballon d'Or winner.
Under US billionaire owner Michele Kang, London City have stated their aim of breaking into the WSL's traditional top three and qualifying for the Champions League. Having recruited high-profile players over the summer, the club has retained other key squad members, with Fernandez and England winger Freya Godfrey committing their futures in recent months.
The new deal keeps Fernandez at London City until 2029 as the club pursues a top-three finish in the WSL and the accompanying Champions League qualification that the ownership has targeted.
