Japanese surfers lead at Shore Temple Classic in Mahabalipuram

Japan continued its dominance at the Shore Temple Classic QS 2000 and Pro Junior at Mahabalipuram Beach on Thursday, with several Japanese surfers advancing into the event’s decisive stages. Ryuichi Inoue and Shohei Kato produced the day’s highest individual scores in the men’s draw.

Ryuichi Inoue posted the highest mark in the Men’s QS 2000 Round of 32 with 13.17. Shohei Kato produced the best score in the Round of 16 with 14.50. Tenshi Iwami (13.90) and Ikko Watanabe (12.73) were other notable Japanese performers.

India’s Kishore Kumar advanced from the Round of 32 with a 10.00. He scored 9.13 in the Round of 16 and missed out on the quarterfinals.

In the Women’s QS 2000 Round of 16, Japan’s Mirai Ikeda topped her heat with 13.60. Sara Wakita followed with a 13.17.

In the Women’s Pro Junior, Anri Matsuno (Japan) registered the highest quarterfinal score of 14.00. India’s P. Kamali also competed in the quarterfinals, scoring 5.73. Both results were recorded during the quarterfinal phase at Mahabalipuram Beach.

Those performances advanced the named surfers into the decisive stages of the Shore Temple Classic at Mahabalipuram Beach. The event featured both QS 2000 and Pro Junior divisions.
