JKCA holds AGM in Jammu after court order and discusses Irani Cup at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium

The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association held its Annual General Meeting in Jammu on Sunday, September 27, 2026, after a court order, and discussed preparations to host the Irani Cup at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar from October 1 to 5, 2026; the tournament will be staged in Kashmir for the first time.

The AGM — the first in nearly 10 years — was attended by 15 authorised club members, office bearers and association members, a JKCA spokesman said, adding: “they discussed preparations for the Irani Cup, scheduled to be held at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, Srinagar, from October 1 to 5, 2026.”

“The meeting stressed the importance of unity, collective responsibility, and a positive approach among all stakeholders to further strengthen and promote cricket across J&K. The members expressed their commitment to working together to build on recent achievements and take J&K cricket to greater heights,” the spokesman said.

A local court in Jammu on Saturday, September 26, permitted the JKCA to hold the AGM after considering pleas challenging the JKCA notice and alleged non-compliance with provisions of the JKCA Constitution, the court allowed the meeting but directed that any decision taken at the proposed AGM “shall not be declared and shall remain subject to the outcome of the interim application”.

The court heard a petition from Javed Ahmad Kitab, who was suspended in July this year as president of the JKCA; Mr. Kitab had petitioned the court with a claim that he was still “the elected president of the JKCA”. His suspension through a resolution this year was followed by the constitution and functioning of the Apex Council and appointment of an Ombudsman.

The court was also informed that the JKCA election conducted on January 16, 2026, whose results were subsequently declared on May 21, 2026, “was contrary to the rules and regulations of the Association and that several clubs and their representatives, who had participated in earlier working committee and election meetings, were deprived of their alleged right to participate and vote”.

The legal dispute remains active: the matter has been listed for further proceedings on October 10, 2026.
