Joe Marchant has been recalled to England's 36-player training squad for this autumn's Nations Championship matches, joining the group when it assembled on Sunday for a three-day camp. The 30-year-old centre returns to the set-up after moving back to England to play for Sale Sharks.

Marchant had been based in France after the 2023 World Cup and became unavailable for England selection while there, but his return to an English club made him eligible for Borthwick's squad. He helped Harlequins become domestic champions in 2021.

Marchant has won 26 caps for England and had not played for the national side since the 2023 World Cup, having become ineligible after joining Stade Francais and being based in France following the tournament.

In September, he made it clear he has ongoing ambitions in the international game, saying: "I want to play for England, that's what I want to do. I'm proud to have played for England and I don't want it to be my last time at that World Cup. I want to play again."

Former England captain Courtney Lawes is also at Sale Sharks after leaving French side Brive but has not been recalled by Borthwick.
