Jordan Pickford stopped after court hears Lamborghini 'ignored the give way lines' in Knutsford on April 14

Jordan Pickford nearly caused a crash with two other cars in Knutsford on 14 April when, the court heard, he drove carelessly in his £200,000 Lamborghini supercar. Police say he ignored a give way sign, forced two vehicles to brake and then sped off before being stopped by officers.
Pickford has made 336 appearances for Everton and won 92 caps for England. The incident has prompted a criminal prosecution for driving without due care or attention and stems from events the court was told unfolded in the Cheshire town of Knutsford.
PC Cecil Ricardo told the court he had just left the station when he saw Pickford's blue Lamborghini Urus complete with personalised number plates. "I was stationary on Bexton Road, Knutsford, waiting for traffic signals to turn green," he wrote. "I then witnessed a blue Lamborghini Urus driving along Princess Street."
Ricardo gave a contemporaneous account of the junction incident: "It reached the junction with Toft Road, completely ignored the give way lines and pulled onto Toft Road causing two vehicles to slam on their brakes to avoid a collision. "The Lamborghini then sped down Toft Road, Knutsford."
The officer said he activated lights and siren to pursue and observed speeds during the chase. He noted his own speed and the Lamborghini's rate: he was driving at 50mph (80.4 kmh) while the Lamborghini "was still pulling away" and added: "The speed limit on that stretch of Toft Road, Knutsford, is 30mph."
Pickford appeared to notice the police car and pulled over, according to the officer's account. He has entered a guilty plea in writing to the charge; in court he told Warrington Magistrates Court: "I would like to attend court to put forward my mitigation." His case was formally adjourned last week.
Pickford began his senior career at Sunderland and spent loan spells at six clubs including Burton Albion, Bradford City and Preston North End. He has featured for England at the 2018, 2022 and 2026 World Cups and was in goal for England's Euro 2020 and 2024 final appearances.
He will next appear at Chester Magistrates' Court on 7 December.
