Justin Greaves ruled out of second ODI vs India in Guwahati after calf injury

Justin Greaves has been ruled out of the second One-Day International between India and West Indies in Guwahati on September 30 after sustaining a calf injury during the first ODI in Thiruvananthapuram.

The match in Guwahati is the second game of the three-match series, with India having won the opener in Thiruvananthapuram and seeking to seal the series with another victory. In the first ODI West Indies posted 295/7 and India chased the target in 41.4 overs, winning by eight wickets; Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 139 while Shubman Gill scored 110.

Greaves produced the standout batting performance for the visitors in the first match, reaching his maiden ODI century before suffering the injury while batting. He finished on 101 from 108 balls, was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav after completing his hundred, and did not take the field during India’s chase after appearing to struggle when running between the wickets.

His 101 arrived as West Indies were attempting to build a strong total, and Greaves, along with Campbell, provided a solid start for the visitors before India made inroads with the ball. The calf problem that emerged during that innings is the reason he will not feature in Guwahati.

Greaves has been an important player for West Indies in ODI cricket; since the start of 2025 he has scored 528 runs in 19 ODI innings and has taken seven wickets for his side.

West Indies will be without Greaves for the Guwahati match on September 30, and his availability for the third and final ODI in New Chandigarh on October 3 remains doubtful.
