On the proposed division of responsibilities, Langer expressed scepticism that the arrangement of a red-ball specialist working alongside McCullum could deliver the clarity and authority a Test head coach typically requires. He raised questions about how responsibilities would be split and whether overlapping roles would undermine the red-ball coach’s ability to set long-term direction.
