Juventus agree season-long loan for Newcastle forward Nick Woltemade

Juventus have agreed a season-long loan for Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade before Tuesday's transfer deadline, and the 24-year-old is due to travel to Turin for a medical.

Woltemade joined Newcastle from Stuttgart in August 2025 for £69m and has attracted interest from several clubs across the continent. He has started only one of Matthias Jaissle's first three games in charge of Newcastle and came off the bench to set up Yoane Wissa's goal in the 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. The loan to Juventus was completed amid that limited playing time and external interest.

Juventus had been looking to add a forward as Jonathan David looks set to join Atletico Madrid on loan. The Italian club also held talks over Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee during the window. Zirkzee's proposed move to Fiorentina was not completed.

The club judged Woltemade to be a better fit for their needs and also considered him the cheaper option. Crucially for Juventus, the deal for Woltemade does not include the obligation-to-buy clause that Manchester United had wanted with Zirkzee. That contractual difference influenced their final choice.

BBC Sport previously reported Newcastle's move for Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo could pave the way for Woltemade's departure. Fernandez-Pardo flew into Tyneside on Monday evening to finalise a move worth up to £55m. That incoming transfer was cited as a factor in enabling Newcastle to sanction Woltemade's loan.

The loan was agreed for a £3.5m fee and does not include an option to make the move permanent.
