K. Govindaraj meets IOC president Kirsty Coventry at Asian Games opening ceremony

K. Govindaraj met International Olympic Committee president Kirsty Coventry during the opening ceremony of the 20th Asian Games in Japan and the two held discussions on various issues, including sports development in Karnataka.

Govindaraj, who serves as Karnataka Olympic Association president, FIBA Asia president and as a member of the legislative council, briefed Coventry on programmes and initiatives the KOA is undertaking to promote sport in Karnataka. The exchange was described in a KOA release.

He invited Coventry to visit Bengaluru in the future in connection with sports activities, according to the release.

Govindaraj told Coventry that Bengaluru is emerging as a hub for basketball and other sports and that the city had already hosted more than 12 international basketball tournaments.
