Kai Havertz substituted with injury during Germany’s UEFA Nations League match vs Netherlands

Kai Havertz was substituted with an apparent injury during Germany’s UEFA Nations League match against the Netherlands on the first night of the international break. The Arsenal forward hobbled off early in the game.

Jurgen Klopp selected Havertz in the starting line-up for his first game in the Germany dugout. Havertz is a former Chelsea player and has a previous knee ailment that kept him out for most of the first part of the previous season. Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta will be hoping that the knee problem has not returned.

Havertz fell in the first half with what looked to be a muscular issue and received treatment on a heavily taped hamstring. He was withdrawn on the half-hour mark and replaced by Younes Ebnoutalib.

The stoppage came only minutes after Quinten Timber, a summer transfer to Crystal Palace, made a hard challenge on Havertz’s knee. The midfielder was given a yellow card for the play, although it might have easily earned him a red.

Sunderland forward Brian Brobbey was also forced off in the first half with what appeared to be a hamstring problem, leaving another Premier League club concerned by an early international-break casualty.

The first half of the game marked the debut for both Netherlands manager Xavi and Germany head coach Jurgen Klopp.

It appeared to be a serious foul. It remains to be seen when he undergoes scans.
