England captain Harry Kane has signed a new contract with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on 5 November 2026, a deal taking him through to 2029 after he was crowned Ballon d'Or winner and keeping the 33-year-old at the Bundesliga club for the late peak years of his career.

Kane moved to Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur for £86m in August 2023 and has since scored 102 goals in 102 Bundesliga matches, won two league titles and claimed three successive Golden Boot awards; he left Spurs as their all-time top scorer with 280 goals in 435 appearances and had scored 213 times in 320 league games for the club.

The new contract has immediate relevance for the Premier League’s all-time scoring record: Alan Shearer, on 260 goals in 441 Premier League matches, remains ahead of Kane, who is 47 goals short of Shearer’s total based on his 213 league goals for Spurs.

Kane’s international standing is unchanged by the deal: he is England’s record goalscorer with 91 goals from a record-equalling 125 caps, and his 2025–26 season produced 73 goals in 65 games for Bayern Munich and England, the campaign that earned him the Ballon d'Or.

Former England striker Chris Sutton assessed Kane’s longevity and adaptation in detail, saying: "I certainly think, although you always have to factor fitness issues into all of this, that Harry is more than capable of carrying on for a few years yet, easily. "People might say his game lacks a little bit of pace, but he's so strong in other areas. He is a world-class all-round player. His finishing isn't going to be affected in any way by his age. He can still link up play and his football brain is first class. "I don't see his age being such a big deal. You think of pacy players over the years who rely on that part of the game then lose it as they get older. Harry is not one of those. He seems fit and at the peak of his powers with Bayern and England."

Sutton also set out his view on Kane’s international future, saying: "Euro 2028 certainly shouldn't be a problem and who knows beyond that? If Harry has got players around him with pace and dynamism, as well as runners in and around him, then his football brain isn't going to change and he can still play a huge part. "He's such a sharp, quick, thinker. He reads the game superbly, knows where his next pass is going and has shown an ability to drop deep and impact the game. "Harry just seems to be getting better and more rounded with age. And as for age, just look at someone like Teddy Sheringham. He was playing and scoring goals for West Ham United in the Premier League in his 40s. "Sheringham was an incredibly talented player with supreme intelligence. Harry Kane falls right into the same category. "Ronaldo has just retired from international football with Portugal at 41, but he is a totally different player than Harry Kane. Harry is one who can drop a little bit deeper to use his incredible ability and range of passing. "As well as that ability, it is about how Harry's football brain works as much as anything and that won't change with age."

On calls for Kane to be replaced following Euro 2024, the article notes he appeared jaded at that tournament, was substituted in all of England's knockout matches including after 61 minutes of the final defeat to Spain in Berlin, and nonetheless finished as the tournament's joint top scorer with three goals from seven games; Sutton added: "When you talk about 2028 or 2030, who are the English strikers coming through to challenge him to take him out of the team?" said Sutton. "There's no-one in his class or effectiveness, or anywhere near it."

Kane’s new deal closes the immediate question of a return to the Premier League and secures Bayern’s investment after his Ballon d'Or-winning campaign; the contract expires shortly before his 36th birthday, leaving him positioned to target Euro 2028 in the UK and Ireland and, when the deal ends, to be only a year away from the 2030 World Cup to be played in Morocco, Portugal and Spain with centenary opening matches in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.
