Season 3 of the Super League Kerala kicked off at the Jawahar Municipal Stadium before a packed atmosphere, with thousands of supporters filling the arena. The Spanish forward Asier Gomes, who scored the last kick that helped Kannur lift the title in the 2025 season, returned to the scoresheet in the opening fixture. Kannur Warriors FC entered the match as last season’s domestic champions and registered their first victory of SLK 2026.
Asier Gomes provided the match's lone goal in the 17th minute, sealing a 1-0 result for Kannur Warriors FC. The goal was the only score of the match and delivered the opening triumph for the Kannur side in the third edition of the tournament.
The win moved Kannur to the top of the points table with three points and a positive goal difference. Thrissur Magic FC sit at the foot of the standings after the loss, while five teams remain yet to register a victory in the competition so far.
Four sides—Malappuram, Calicut, Thiruvananthapuram Kombans and Forca Kochi—are currently on zero points and have not played a match in SLK 2026. Thrissur's defeat leaves them without a win after the opening fixture.
