KB Stars thump Indian Railways 81-42 in FIBA Women’s Basketball League Asia Group B clash
KB Stars defeated Indian Railways 81-42 in a Group-B game of the FIBA Women’s Basketball League Asia at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium on Wednesday. The one-sided result left Railways trailing in the group standings.
Reigning National champion Indian Railways suffered a second successive heavy loss as it struggled to convert opportunities. The team showed signs of better organisation and a clearer game plan compared with its previous outing, but shooting proved deficient. Attempts from long range were particularly poor, which constrained their scoring despite some improvement elsewhere.
Railways failed to make a single three-point basket from 19 attempts, while KB Stars made 16 three-pointers from 55 attempts. That gulf from distance was a decisive factor in the scoring gap. Railways’ perimeter woes prevented the team from turning its offensive structure into points.
Turnovers further widened the margin: Railways produced just two points off turnovers, whereas KB Stars scored 25 from those situations. The visitors were able to convert extra possessions into scores, compounding Railways’ shooting problems. Ball security and conversion on transition chances emerged as a clear difference between the sides.
Inside the paint, Railways outscored KB Stars 34-22, showing some success on close-range scoring. For KB Stars, captain and forward Yunjeong Na led with 18 points. Manmeet Kaur was the highest scorer for Railways with 17 points.
Across the pool, Cathay Life Tigers beat Akari Sparks 85-75 in Group-A; Penina Davidson scored 22, Chu Chu 14, Hui-Ju Liu 13, Yu-Lien Hsu 12 and Yu Wen Hsiao 10 for Cathay Life, while Saicha Patricia Grant-Allen had 21, Bre’Amber Shakira Scott 17, Kent Jane Pastrana 13 and Stefanie Berberabe 11 for Akari Sparks. The official Group-B boxscore lists KB Stars 81 (Yunjeong Na 18, Yunha Song 12, Yebin Hoon 10) defeating Indian Railways 42 (Manmeet Kaur 17).
The loss eliminated Indian Railways from contention for the semifinals of the FIBA Women’s Basketball League Asia.
