Kerala Blasters FC were held to a 0-0 draw by Mumbai City FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Sunday in an Indian Super League 2026-27 fixture. The result came after a heavy 4-1 defeat to NorthEast United FC, leaving the Blasters eager for a response in front of their home fans.

The Blasters showed clearer organisation at the back compared with their previous outing and created a handful of opportunities, but finishing continued to be a problem. Neither side managed to break the deadlock, and the match finished without a winner despite moments of attacking promise. The clean sheet was a notable improvement for Kerala, but the inability to score remained the headline from the game.

Mohammed Sanan was one of Kerala’s most active players, using his pace and runs down the left to unsettle Mumbai’s defence. One of his crosses found Hormipam Ruivah inside the box but the defender could not turn it into a goal, and Sanan himself came close to scoring at another point. His willingness to take on defenders and create chances stood out, though the team did not capitalise on the openings he produced.

Goalkeeper Amrinder Singh played a major role in preserving the clean sheet, producing several important saves when called upon. Noufal forced some of Amrinder’s most significant interventions, including a close-range stop described as one of the keeper’s best moments, and Amrinder was required again in the second half when Muhammad Ajsal failed to make the most of a rebound. Those saves, combined with the defenders’ work, helped Kerala avoid another disappointing result.

Mumbai City’s defence earned praise for its organisation late in the match as Kerala pressed for a winner and sent multiple balls into the box. The visitors’ defenders repeatedly cleared danger and limited clear finishing opportunities for the Blasters in the closing minutes. Although Mumbai had chances of their own, holding a clean sheet allowed them to leave Kochi with a point.

Kerala missed several clear openings: Hormipam Ruivah failed to convert an early chance after connecting with Sanan’s cross, Freddy Lallawmawma could not capitalise on a delivery from Nebojsa Kosovic, and Adrian Luna had opportunities but did not find the back of the net. The recurring failure to finish was identified as a growing concern for the Blasters, who are generating chances but lacking the decisive final touch.

After the 4-1 defeat to NorthEast United, the goalless draw represented a defensive step forward and a more settled backline, yet it also highlighted unfinished work in attack. Ashley Westwood will take some satisfaction from avoiding a second successive loss but will be aware of the need for greater attacking returns, and supporters were left disappointed that created chances did not translate into a win. Kerala now need to build on the defensive improvement and find a way to score more goals in their upcoming matches.
