Josh Kerr's mile world record at the London Diamond League in July and Sabastian Sawe's sub-two-hour performance at the London Marathon in April have been nominated for the Moment of the Year at the World Athletics Awards.

Kerr, 29, ran a time of three minutes 42.66 seconds at the London Diamond League in July. He smashed the 27-year-old record held by Morocco's Hicham El Guerrouj by almost half a second. He was cheered on by the home crowd at an electric London Stadium throughout.

In April, Kenya's Sabastian Sawe, 31, became the first athlete to run a competitive marathon in under two hours. Sawe won in a time of one hour 59 minutes 30 seconds, more than one minute faster than the late Kelvin Kiptum's previous marathon record of 2:00:35, set in 2023. Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha also broke the two-hour barrier while finishing in second place, and third-placed Jacob Kiplimo also beat the previous world record.

The third nominee was Botswana winning the men's 4x400m relay title at the world relays. That victory came in front of a wild home crowd. Those three performances make up the shortlist for the Moment of the Year.

Other awards to be presented at the ceremony include men's and women's athlete of the year, rising star and coach, among additional categories.

The World Athletics Awards take place in Monaco on 29 November. Winners of the Moment of the Year and the other categories will be revealed at the ceremony.
