Kieron Pollard joins Joburg Super Kings at SA20 Season 5 auction

Kieron Pollard was bought by Joburg Super Kings at the SA20 Season 5 auction, a move reported on October 7, 2026. Mumbai Indians had released him ahead of the auction, making him available for selection.
Pollard spent the bulk of his playing career in Mumbai Indians blue and produced several notable innings against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. He was part of the MI-linked entry into the SA20 when Mumbai Indians partnered with Cape Town for the competition's inaugural edition. The Joburg Super Kings signing will be Pollard's first appearance for a Super Kings franchise and will see him adopt the yellow jersey.
Pollard was a marquee name at the 2010 IPL auction after his performances for Trinidad and Tobago attracted interest from multiple franchises. Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders all participated in the bidding that reached the maximum permitted amount of $750,000; with more than one team at that figure a secret tie-breaker decided the winner and Mumbai Indians prevailed. That outcome launched Pollard into a 13-season IPL career with Mumbai Indians.
During his time with Mumbai Indians Pollard scored 3,412 runs and took 69 wickets for the franchise. He was part of all five of Mumbai Indians' IPL title-winning campaigns and featured in both of the franchise's Champions League T20-winning campaigns, achievements the source describes as establishing him as one of the most successful players in their history.
After retiring from the IPL in 2022, Pollard moved into coaching as Mumbai Indians' batting coach and remained involved with the franchise's broader operations. He worked with MI Emirates in the ILT20, MI New York in Major League Cricket and MI Cape Town in the SA20; he captained MI Cape Town during the 2024 season, scoring 187 runs at a strike rate of 185.15. Pollard was not part of MI Cape Town's title-winning campaign in 2025 but returned midway through the 2026 season as Rashid Khan's replacement and played two matches.
Ahead of the most recent auction Pollard was listed alongside 155 other players for 19 available slots. Joburg Super Kings entered the auction with R20.6 million in their purse and six slots to fill; they used R1.5 million of that amount to sign Pollard, who went unopposed at the auction. The signing moves him into a new dressing room after years associated with the MI setup.
Sixteen years after Chennai Super Kings competed with Mumbai Indians for Pollard's services at the 2010 auction, he will finally wear yellow; however, it will be the Joburg Super Kings jersey rather than the Chennai Super Kings shirt.
