Knicks pause individual ticket sales after pricing error lists season-opener tickets above $1,000
The New York Knicks said on Thursday they were pausing individual ticket sales after a pricing mistake listed tickets for their 20 October season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers at more than $1,000. Madison Square Garden Sports confirmed the pause and said sales will resume with corrected prices.
The club had put single-game tickets for the 2026-27 season on sale this week, prompting an immediate reaction to the high listed prices. “We are pausing Knicks individual ticket sales due to a mistake in our pricing. We are rolling back to last year’s prices plus an average increase of 12%. We will restart sales with new prices shortly, and anyone who already purchased individual tickets will be refunded the difference,” Madison Square Garden Sports said in a statement. A price rise was widely anticipated after the franchise won its first NBA championship in 53 years last season, while owner James Dolan has not raised prices following seasons without postseason play.
MSG issued a second statement addressing fan concerns. “Our intention was never to overcharge our loyal fans, and we thank everyone for their support of the Knicks and their patience as we get this right,” MSG said.
When single-game tickets opened to the general public on Wednesday, the get-in price for the first home game registered at $1,363, according to TicketData.com. The figure had reached as high as $1,408 earlier in the week when single-game tickets were first made available to Knicks Fan First Chase cardholders on Monday. The process for purchasing season tickets, which began months ago, was not affected by the pricing error.
The 20 October opener has attracted extra attention given the matchup and roster moves. The season opener is shaping up to be one of the marquee games of the regular season, and the 76ers signed LeBron James and acquired Jaylen Brown over the offseason to team with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
Secondary-market activity and broader ticket-price data underlined the controversy. During the NBA finals in June, secondary-market prices for the Knicks’ home games approached $9,000 for the worst seats at Madison Square Garden.
