Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw miss Atletico Madrid v Manchester United at Estadio Metropolitano

Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw were absent from Manchester United’s teamsheet for their UEFA Champions League 2026-27 second-round league phase clash against Atletico Madrid at the Estadio Metropolitano on Tuesday night. United head coach Michael Carrick faced fresh injury setbacks ahead of the continental fixture.

Manchester United were without six senior players, including Mainoo and Shaw, forcing Carrick to reshuffle his squad. Diogo Dalot was moved to left-back and Leny Yoro kept his place at right-back after impressing against Tottenham Hotspur. In midfield, Carlos Baleba made his first United start alongside Youri Tielemans.

Shaw, who started at left-back in the Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur, was forced off deep into second-half stoppage time in the 95th minute with an unspecified injury and was seen limping after the game. He did not take part in the following training session and was subsequently ruled out of the Atletico match.

Mainoo played the entire Tottenham match but suffered an unspecified knock; he also missed the subsequent training session and was ruled out of United’s Champions League fixture.

Atletico Madrid entered the game without any significant injury issues and Diego Simeone selected a mostly unchanged starting XI as his side pursued all three points at their home stadium.
