Kristian Shevchenko, the 19-year-old son of Ballon d'Or winner Andriy Shevchenko, has completed a permanent transfer to seventh-tier Sholing FC, the club announced on 6 October 2026. The forward arrives at the Southampton-based side after time in Chelsea, Tottenham and Watford academies.

Shevchenko's move follows spells across several top academies and a final season at Championship club Watford, where he featured for their under-21s before being released in May. Sholing, who are based in Southampton, have attracted involvement from Premier League players Levi Colwill and Matt Targett as part of their off-field set-up. Colwill holds the role of associate director and community ambassador at the club, while Targett's younger brother Brad is on Sholing's playing staff in the Southern League Premier Division South. The deal for Kristian is a permanent signing by the Boatmen.

Manager Paul Doswell said the transfer aligned with a recent change in the club's recruitment approach. "The move came from some of our coaching staff and their links in academy football," he told BBC Radio Solent.

Doswell said discussions with the player were recent and that Kristian was enthusiastic about the opportunity. "We spoke to Kristian last week and he's very keen to be part of the model here and see if he can get in the team and progress his football career with us."

Kristian's background includes academy periods at Chelsea and Tottenham before his time with Watford's under-21s; his release in May preceded the move to non-league football. The signing is presented by Sholing as part of their strategy to recruit promising players released from professional clubs and integrate them into senior non-league football.

Kristian is the son of former Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko, who played for AC Milan, Chelsea and Dynamo Kyiv during his playing career before retiring in 2012. Andriy won the 2003 Champions League with Milan and claimed the Ballon d'Or in 2004.

Doswell framed Kristian's arrival as part of a broader development plan for the club: "We've got a real way forward that we're going to sign the best young players that get released from pro clubs and give them a chance to play in non-league football. "We'll then hopefully improve them as they're with us and get them back playing in the professional league."
