Kylian Mbappe has signed with Swiss sportswear company On to become the brand’s global ambassador, a move announced on 18 September 2026 that ends his two-decade relationship with Nike.

On was founded in 2010 as a maker of running shoes and added Roger Federer as a co-owner in 2019; the company has since announced plans to enter the football market and has appointed Thierry Henry as its director of football. On has said it will launch its first football boots in 2027, signalling a strategic shift from running into the team-sports arena.

Nike issued a public statement acknowledging the split, saying: “We are proud of what we achieved together ‌on and off the pitch. As he (Mbappe) moves into the next phase of his career, we wish him continued success for what comes next.”

Mbappe described his reasons for joining On in a quoted statement: “From the beginning, what drew me to On was the opportunity to build something entirely new together that will help shape tomorrow’s game. I want to bring my experience and perspective into what we create, push what’s possible through innovation, and always stay true to the joy of football. We have a shared dream, and this is only the beginning.”

David Allemann, founder and co-CEO of On, said the sport of football needs new ideas and a challenge to what is possible. The company is targeting growth in regions where it has been weaker, with the source noting On is currently struggling in the Americas and is seeking to expand its presence there.

The report also notes recent commercial movement in football sponsorships, saying Nike recently lost World Cup winner and Barcelona star Lamine Yamal after his deal with Adidas. On’s recruitment of high-profile figures such as Mbappe and Henry is presented in the source as part of its strategy to establish credibility in football.

Mbappe is set to be the global face of On and the brand will introduce its first football boots in 2027, a confirmed next step in On’s planned entry into the football market.
