Lawrence Dallaglio to auction 2003 World Cup winner's medal after bankruptcy

Former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio will put his 2003 Rugby World Cup winner's medal up for auction at Budd's in Northamptonshire on 13 October after being declared bankrupt. He has placed a range of items from his playing career, including medals, trophies and caps, up for sale.

Dallaglio made 326 appearances for Wasps during his club career. The World Cup medal is expected to raise between £50,000 and £80,000. In total the collection has an estimated value of £180,000. Other items listed for auction include a British and Irish Lions cap, his 1993 World Cup Sevens winner's medal and a 2003 Six Nations Championship winner's medal.

Dallaglio was one of the stars of the England side that won the World Cup in dramatic fashion against Australia 23 years ago.

During an appearance on The High Performance podcast earlier this month, Dallaglio spoke about his bankruptcy. He said: "As a result of getting divorced, I was made bankrupt. "I had some financial problems - I could've done things a lot better." He also said he sought therapy after his divorce and bankruptcy left him wallowing in "self-pity".

The auction at Budd's in Northamptonshire takes place on 13 October.
