Lewandowski, 38, scores hat-trick as Poland beat 10-man Romania 6-0

Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick as Poland beat 10-man Romania 6-0 in a Nations League match in Warsaw on 3 October 2026. Romania were reduced to 10 men after Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin, who is on loan at Fiorentina, was shown a red card in the 22nd minute.
Lewandowski made his Poland debut in 2008 and the former Barcelona striker has scored 92 international goals. He is 38 years old and this match produced his seventh international hat-trick. Gheorghe Hagi, in his second spell in charge of Romania, became the first Romania manager to lose his first three competitive matches.
Dragusin’s dismissal left Romania playing a man short for most of the game in Warsaw. Lewandowski opened the scoring from the penalty spot and then doubled Poland’s lead early in the second half. The red card was shown in the 22nd minute.
An own goal and strikes from Piotr Zielinski and Jan Bednarek extended Poland’s advantage before Lewandowski completed his hat-trick. That sequence produced the 6-0 final scoreline. The hat-trick was Lewandowski’s seventh at international level.
Edin Dzeko retired from international football after Bosnia-Herzegovina’s 1-1 home draw with Sweden. The ex-Manchester City forward, 40, found the net late in the first half but the goal was disallowed because the ball went out of play in the build-up.
Fireworks went off after 11 minutes to mark the number 11 on Dzeko’s 152nd international appearance and he received a standing ovation when substituted after 62 minutes in Zenica. Post-match celebrations included an official ceremony, a guard of honour and a drone show displaying messages of thanks, and Dzeko was showered with soft toys during a lap of honour. He scored 73 goals in 152 games for Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Kevin de Bruyne scored twice, a goal in each half, and Romelu Lukaku completed the scoring as Belgium beat Turkey 3-0. Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres put Sweden ahead before Kerim Alajbegovic equalised for Bosnia-Herzegovina. Milos Kerkez scored the only goal as Hungary beat Georgia 1-0 in Budapest to claim their first Nations League win of the campaign.
Poland’s victory leaves them third in Group B4 while Romania remain fourth; Belgium moved up to second in Group A1. Hungary sit third in Group B2, three points behind leaders Northern Ireland.
