On August 17, 2026, EA Sports FC published the official player ratings for EA FC 27 and listed Lionel Messi, the Argentine and Inter Miami superstar, with a new base overall rating of 89 — a +3 increase from his EA FC 26 base card.

As part of the wider ratings reveal, EA released top-27 lists for both men’s and women’s players and noted that a number of individuals received upgrades and downgrades. Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland were shown as the joint highest-rated players at 91 overall.

EA attributed Messi’s rise to strong showings in the club league and at the FIFA World Cup 2026, and the publisher shared an official Messi card on social media that displays the +3 upgrade.

The company’s published details indicate improvements to Messi’s shooting and dribbling compared with the previous game, while listing dribbling, close ball control, vision, passing and finishing among his leading attributes.

EA’s summary of the card describes Messi’s capacity to retain possession and influence play in both Ultimate Team and Career Mode, and notes his ability to move quickly and skilfully; the publisher added that, "Thanks to his elite dribbling, passing, and finishing, Messi is expected to be one of the strongest attacking options in Ultimate Team at launch."

EA FC 27 is scheduled for release on September 25, 2026, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch & Switch 2 and PC.
