Lovlina Borgohain's route to Asian Games 2026 gold begins with Seong Suyeon

Lovlina Borgohain will meet South Korea’s Seong Suyeon in the quarter-final of the women’s 75kg at the Asian Games 2026 after the draw was confirmed on September 20; she is placed in an eight-boxer bracket and must win three bouts to claim the gold.

Her quarter-final is scheduled for September 28, with the semi-final on September 30 and the gold medal bout on October 2. Lovlina arrives at the Asian Games following a silver medal performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where she lost the final 4-1 to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree. Her list of major achievements includes a bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, a world title in 2023 and silver at the 2022 Asian Games. At the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou she beat Seong 5-0 in the quarter-finals, a win that earned her a medal and a quota place for the Paris Olympics.

Seong Suyeon is ranked 11th in the World Boxing women’s 75kg rankings while Lovlina is ranked seventh. The pair have met previously and Seong will be looking to produce a different result when they meet again. A victory in the quarter-final would guarantee Lovlina at least a medal at the Asian Games.

If Lovlina advances she would face the winner of Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova and Uzbekistan’s Aziza Zokirova in the semi-final. Bogdanova is the reigning world champion, having won the 70kg title at the 2025 World Championships, and has moved up to 75kg for the Asian Games. Zokirova defeated Lovlina 5-0 in the semi-final of the 2026 Asian Boxing Elite Championships; Zokirova went on to win silver at that event while Lovlina finished with bronze.

The opposite half of the bracket contains China’s Bao Ziyi, Thailand’s Buapa Porntip, Vietnam’s Luu Diem Quynh and Iran’s Khoshkhah Parmida. Bao Ziyi is ranked second in the World Boxing standings for 75kg and won gold in the women’s 75kg at the 2026 Asian Boxing Elite Championships. Bao beat Zokirova 3-2 in the final of that tournament.

Lovlina’s projected path is now clear: Seong Suyeon in the quarter-final, Bogdanova or Zokirova in the semi-final, and one of the four boxers from the opposite half in the final. She won silver in Hangzhou three years ago and, with recent Commonwealth Games silver and her record at major events, will be aiming to convert her 2022 Asian Games silver into gold at Aichi-Nagoya 2026.

Lovlina’s immediate next fixture is the quarter-final against Seong Suyeon on September 28; a win would move her into the semi-final on September 30 and the gold medal bout on October 2.
