Lucas Herrington set to join Hull City from Colorado Rapids

Lucas Herrington, an 18-year-old Australian defender, is set to join Premier League club Hull City from Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids, the move reported on August 11, 2026. The transfer comes as Hull continue to strengthen their squad following promotion to the English Premier League.

Hull have added seven first‑team players this summer after promotion, and Herrington is the club's second defensive signing following left‑back Matt Targett, who arrived after the expiry of his Newcastle United contract and spent the previous season on loan at Middlesbrough.

According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Hull will pay a fixed fee of $15 million with a further $5 million in add‑ons, and Colorado Rapids included a 15% sell‑on clause in the agreement.

Born in Brisbane, Herrington progressed through the academies of Taringa Rovers, Toowong FC, Brisbane City FC and Brisbane Roar; he made his senior debut for Brisbane Roar in December 2024 against Western Sydney Wanderers and scored his first senior goal in January against Sydney FC.

Herrington made 28 league appearances for Brisbane Roar across two seasons, which prompted Colorado Rapids to sign him for €900k. Since moving to the United States he has appeared in 18 league matches and the article states he has established himself as one of the best defenders in the league.

Eligible for Germany, Finland and Zimbabwe as well as Australia, Herrington chose to represent his country of birth; he made his Socceroos debut in March in a friendly against Cameroon, featured in FIFA World Cup 2026 in the final group game and the Round of 32, and has six international caps without scoring.
