Bayern Munich hosted Borussia Dortmund in the first Der Klassiker of the German Bundesliga 2026-27 at the Allianz Arena on Saturday night, and both Luis Díaz and Manuel Neuer were absent after being ruled out of the Matchday 8 fixture. Neither player featured in Bayern’s matchday squad.

The derby arrived with the two sides level on 17 points at the top of the table and Bayern coached by assistant Aaron Danks in the temporary absence of Vincent Kompany. The fixture was the eighth Bundesliga match for both teams in the 2026-27 season.

Luis Díaz missed the game after sustaining an injury during Bayern’s UEFA Champions League meeting with Arsenal on October 21, with club medical examinations diagnosing a minor muscle fibre tear in his left hamstring. Bayern confirmed the 29-year-old would be unavailable for the foreseeable future, and Serge Gnabry started on the left wing in his place.

Manuel Neuer was omitted because of a foot injury that had already kept him out of Bayern’s two previous matches; his last appearance was Bayern’s Champions League clash against Arsenal almost two weeks earlier. Danks said: “Unfortunately, tomorrow’s game is a little bit early for Manuel Neuer. He still has pain in his foot,” and 23-year-old Jonas Urbig started in goal for the hosts in Der Klassiker.

Bayern posted their confirmed lineup on social media with the message: Our Starting XI 🆚 Dortmund is here! 👊 pic.twitter.com/Z0amRoWz4k

With both Díaz and Neuer unavailable, Bayern will need to secure all three points at home to retain their place at the top of the Bundesliga table.
