Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo miss Man United training ahead of Atletico Madrid clash

Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo missed Manchester United’s open training ahead of the Champions League match against Atletico Madrid on 14th Oct at 12:30 am IST. Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is set to deliver an update on both players during his pre-match news conference this evening.

Manchester United’s injury situation has worsened after the two absences, with preparations for the Atletico Madrid game disrupted. Carrick and his coaching staff will decide later in the day whether the players will travel to the Spanish city. The club’s left-back options are already stretched, increasing the significance of the absences for the match squad.

Shaw had previously missed Manchester United’s league phase win over Sabah last month because of injury, a point that adds to concern about his availability. Mainoo, by contrast, played the entire 90 minutes against Spurs and showed no sign of injury during that appearance, making his absence from training unexpected.

Mainoo was forced to withdraw from England duties during the previous international break due to injury and workload management, and the report states United are wary of overworking their "precious young midfielder." That history is cited as part of the club’s caution over his minutes and recovery.

The report also notes other defensive absences: Dorgu was hurt while playing for Denmark during the international break and Noussair Mazraoui missed Monday’s training session, leaving Carrick with limited alternatives at left-back if Shaw is unavailable.

A social media update accompanying the report read: "No Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw at training with @ManUtd. Decision about travel to Madrid later. pic.twitter.com/2t7y9cWuGl"

A decision on whether Shaw and Mainoo will travel to Madrid has not been revealed; Carrick will provide an update at his pre-match news conference this evening. Manchester United will face Atletico Madrid on 14th Oct at 12:30 am IST.
