'Made the entire nation proud', PM Modi said after Jhandu Kumar secured India's first medal at the Commonwealth Games. Jhandu claimed a bronze in para powerlifting's heavyweight division with a 190kg lift.

Jhandu Kumar's podium finish provided India with its opening medal at the Glasgow Games. The result came in the para powerlifting competition, where several Indian lifters contested across weight classes. In the lightweight event Ashok finished fourth, while Paramjeet Kumar placed seventh. Indian women also competed in their respective para powerlifting categories.

Jhandu's 190kg effort in the heavyweight category was enough to earn the bronze medal and register the nation's first podium placement at the Games. The lift stood as the decisive mark that secured third place in the event.

Ashok, competing in the lightweight division, completed his series of lifts to finish in fourth place. Paramjeet Kumar recorded a seventh-place finish in his category. Both athletes were part of India's para powerlifting entries at the Glasgow Games.

Indian women also took part in their designated para powerlifting classes, representing the country across multiple events. The delegation included both male and female lifters contesting for medals in their respective categories. Their participation added depth to India's presence in para powerlifting at the Games.
