Man City chief executive 'defiant' after club found guilty of majority of Premier League charges

Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano issued a "defiant" message to executives of other clubs after the club was found guilty of the vast majority of the 115 Premier League charges, speaking at a board meeting of European Football Clubs in Copenhagen before its general assembly on Tuesday, BBC Sport has been told. He vowed to fight the charges and said the process had a long way to run, reiterating comments made by chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak in a letter to fans on Saturday.

Soriano, who joined Manchester City as chief executive in 2012, addressed European Football Clubs (formerly the ECA) while the club faces extensive allegations. City have been accused of a wide range of rule breaches centering on claims they inflated sponsorship revenue from connected companies and made other "off the books" payments to circumvent financial regulations.

On Friday, it was announced they had been found guilty of the vast majority of the 115 charges brought against them.

Sanctions are yet to be announced; possible repercussions cited include a points deduction, expulsion from the top flight or a huge fine.

Premier League clubs are seeking legal advice about compensation relating to the charges. BBC Sport has been told City will appeal.
