Man Utd in late-stage talks with Leicester over Louis Page

Manchester United are in talks with Leicester City over a deadline-day transfer for midfielder Louis Page as the transfer window approaches Tuesday's 11pm deadline, with club officials working to try to complete a deal that would likely cost well in excess of £10m despite caution about the chances of doing so before the cut-off.

The 18-year-old Page made his first-team debut in August 2025 and has recorded four appearances so far this season and 25 appearances in total; BBC Sport first reported United's interest in August. In his very first outing, a pre-season friendly win over Peterborough last year, Page scored twice and that performance preceded what became his breakthrough season in Leicester's first team.

United have already added three international midfielders this summer as part of a midfield rebuild, with Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos having made their debuts. Carlos Baleba, signed from Brighton for £70m, will miss the next couple of weeks with a minor ankle issue.

Completing a deal for Page would be seen internally as addressing supporter concerns after a quiet deadline day, but sources have indicated the club will not sign a left-back despite external demands. A proposed move for Netherlands forward Joshua Zirkzee to Juventus failed to materialise and he is increasingly likely to remain in Michael Carrick's squad; there has been no update on whether young full-back Harry Amass will be allowed to leave.

Leicester regard Page as one of the most talented graduates of their academy in recent years. Observers describe him as an elegant, powerful modern number eight who can carry the ball through the lines, deliver a decisive pass and possesses a driven mindset and composure beyond his years.

Club officials remain engaged in discussions with Leicester and are attempting to finalise any agreement before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Tuesday.
