On Wednesday, 20 October 2026, Manchester United were reported to be revisiting a move for Newcastle and England left-back Lewis Hall, 22, who is said to be keen on a transfer to Old Trafford.

The club are said to be planning a major defensive overhaul next summer and have identified Bournemouth and France defender Adrien Truffert, 24, as another target.

Real Madrid remain interested in Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori, 24, although Arsenal have made it clear an extraordinary offer would be required for them to sell the 24-year-old.

Liverpool and Arsenal have both been linked with Spanish defender Xavi Espart, 19, but Barcelona would reject offers for the player, who has a release clause in excess of £84m.

Newcastle are reportedly keen on making a move for AC Milan and England defender Fikayo Tomori, 28, when he becomes a free agent in the summer, and Arsenal are targeting a January move for Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi, 22, who has been valued at £42m.

Argentina midfielder Emiliano Buendia is set to sign a new contract at Aston Villa, while talks with Sweden's Victor Lindelof, 32, and 19-year-old Englishman George Hemmings are progressing.

Manchester United are continuing to monitor the situation of Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr, 28, with Galatasaray also still interested in the Senegal international; Tottenham's and Spain right-back Pedro Porro, 27, would "seriously consider" the chance to join either Barcelona or Real Madrid, and Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez, 28, is set to leave Manchester United at the end of the season.

The immediate transfer timeline highlighted in the reports points to United's planned defensive rebuild next summer, Newcastle's interest in Tomori hinging on his free-agent status that month, and Arsenal's nearer-term pursuit of Tresoldi in January.
