Manchester City leapfrog Chelsea in WSL as Lucy Bronze’s own goal hands Everton a draw

Manchester City moved above Chelsea in the Women’s Super League on 7 November 2026 after a 5-0 win over West Ham, while Chelsea were held 1-1 at home by Everton following a freak own goal by Lucy Bronze.
An attempted Chelsea corner sequence saw Lucy Bronze head the ball back across her own goal to set up Sandy Baltimore’s close-range strike in the 28th minute, only for Bronze’s subsequent attempted clearance five minutes later to roll into her own net and level the game; Everton held on for a 1-1 draw.
Manchester City capitalised on Chelsea’s dropped points as Bunny Shaw’s goalscoring run continued — the Jamaican striker netted a hat-trick in a 5-0 victory over West Ham, with Aoba Fujino and Iman Beney also among the scorers.
West Ham adopted a compact, defensive approach and their goalkeeper Constance Picaud-Inconnu was forced into a smart parry to keep out Kerstin Casparij, while Fujino struck the woodwork before City finally broke the deadlock six minutes before half-time when Hemp won possession from a build-up out of the visitors’ back line and the ball was worked to Shaw to finish.
City extended their lead eight minutes after the interval as Shaw guided Hemp’s cross past Picaud-Inconnu, and although Fujino first hit the crossbar she was on target minutes later to make it 3-0; Beney then added a fourth five minutes after coming on with a deflected strike from the edge of the box.
Shaw completed her hat-trick with 16 minutes remaining when she latched on to a through ball from Grace Clinton, bringing her tally to 12 goals from nine WSL appearances; Fujino’s and Beney’s strikes were their first goals of the campaign.
The draw at Stamford Bridge cost Chelsea first-place status and represented their first dropped points since the opening day of the season, allowing Manchester City to overtake them in the WSL table.
