Manchester City sign Allan Elias for €37.5m plus €2.5m as Nico González nears Newcastle move

Manchester City have agreed a €37.5m plus €2.5m (£34m) transfer for Palmeiras winger Allan Elias, the club announced on 24 August 2026. The move comes as City are in advanced negotiations to sell midfielder Nico González to Newcastle United.

Allan, 22, made his senior Palmeiras debut last year and has 96 appearances for the club, with nine goals and 12 assists, and is yet to play for Brazil. His arrival is intended to clear the way for the sale of Savinho to Tottenham for £75m plus £10m, and Spurs are also pursuing Omar Marmoush with the forward’s fee expected to be £75m. While Savinho has informed Enzo Maresca he wishes to leave, City’s manager said on Friday that the Egyptian had not done so.

González, 24, is expected to be sold to Newcastle for a fee in the region of £50m, a sum almost identical to the £49.8m City paid Porto for the midfielder in the January 2025 window. Newcastle are understood to be confident of signing the player.

City have so far made one senior signing in this window, the £116m purchase of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, and are close to sealing a €95m (£81.4m) plus €5m deal for Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. Bouaddi is thought to have undergone his medical on Monday.

The club are also thought to retain an interest in Liverpool’s wide forward Cody Gakpo, with Tottenham likewise closely monitoring the Dutchman’s availability. The reporting adds that if Liverpool sign Bradley Barcola and another winger, they may be open to Gakpo’s departure.

Liverpool are pondering a third bid for Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh while continuing talks with Paris Saint-Germain over Ibrahim Mbaye and Barcola.

City may use money from a González sale to make an official bid for Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández; Chelsea set a deadline for any offer for the midfielder of 14 August, which was not met. City may test their resolve, as the player is open to a move and a reunion with his former coach Maresca.
