Manchester United held to goalless draw by Everton in WSL

Manchester United were held to a 0-0 draw by Everton at Everton in a Women's Super League match on 31 October 2026. The result denied either side a decisive advantage in the table and left Everton apparently happier with a point after an encouraging display.
A carnival-style half-time saw school-age dancers perform to a Michael Jackson track, but the match itself produced little excitement. United rarely troubled Everton keeper Courtney Brosnan in the first 75 minutes, and Brosnan kept out Elisabeth Terland’s close-range attempt following a through ball from Jess Park. Sky Sports described the contest as "ghoul-less."
Terland, who has scored five Women’s Super League goals against Everton, was thwarted by Brosnan when offered a gilt-edged chance, while Everton — winless in all 15 of their WSL meetings with Manchester United — will take encouragement from their defensive solidity. Former United full-back Hannah Blundell saw a left-footed effort headed for the top corner saved by Phallon Tullis-Joyce, who also held shots from Ornella Vignola either side of the interval.
Everton's midfield, led by combinations from Rosa van Gool and Yuka Momiki, frustrated United for long periods and prevented sustained attacking momentum. United improved after Simi Awujo was introduced, starting to apply pressure late on, but could not produce a decisive finish despite growing into the game.
United entered the fixture on a good run in the league, with three wins and a draw from their previous four WSL matches, the most recent being a derby with Manchester City settled by a late equaliser. They had also beaten second-tier Burnley 3-0 at home in the Players Cup on Wednesday to sit top of that competition with a 100% record.
Opportunities were limited in the first half beyond an Andrea Medina shot that was blocked inside the Everton area and a Park effort that flew over the bar. Everton supporters vocally backed midfielder Ruby Mace, chanting for her to be considered for England during the match.
The draw was Everton’s first in the league campaign, leaving them on three wins and four defeats and moving them above Arsenal into sixth place. They remain two points behind Manchester United as Scott Phelan continues to oversee a steady spell in charge.
