Manchester United likely to pursue alternatives as Newcastle resist selling Lewis Hall this summer

Manchester United’s pursuit of Lewis Hall from Newcastle United has stalled in the current summer transfer window, with Newcastle reluctant to part with the left-back after already selling two major players and facing the imminent departure of Bruno Guimarães to Arsenal for £75 million.

Newcastle’s unwillingness to sell Hall means only an exceptionally large bid would change their stance, and Manchester United — still seeking a third central midfielder and preferably a left winger — are preparing to explore other targets; a list of five potentially more affordable alternatives has been compiled.

Tyrick Mitchell is presented as one option: the 26-year-old Crystal Palace left-back started 36 of 38 league games in 2025-26, helped the Eagles win the UEFA Conference League, is at the end of his current contract, and previously broke into the England squad under Gareth Southgate, making him a reliable, experienced Premier League candidate.

David Raum is another target; described as a late bloomer, he has been a regular in the Bundesliga for the past five years, has earned 39 caps for Germany in that period and registered nine assists in 2025-26, marking him out as a creator from the left flank.

Benjamin Šeško is listed as a penalty-box striker who could gain from strong crossing into the area; like Mitchell, he is reportedly approaching the end of his contract with RB Leipzig.

El Hadji Malick Diouf of West Ham United is suggested as a longer-term investment: the 21-year-old Senegal international enjoyed a breakout season and was one of the few bright spots in a relegated squad, has attracted Brentford interest, and West Ham appear keen to retain him for reasons likened to Newcastle’s reluctance to sell Hall.

With Newcastle having already lost multiple key players and set to sell Bruno Guimarães for £75 million, Manchester United will likely pursue one or more of these alternative targets during the remainder of the summer transfer window.
