Manchester United to wear new ivory third kit in Premier League opener at Hull City

Manchester United will wear their new third kit in the Premier League 2026-27 opener against Hull City at the MKM Stadium on Saturday, August 22, 2026. The club announced the kit decision ahead of the match.

United finished third last season under Michael Carrick and will begin the new campaign as heavy favourites against newly promoted Hull City, who secured promotion last season. The Red Devils have a strong record in opening fixtures, having won 22 Premier League openers — the most in the league’s history. Carrick’s side will seek a winning start following last season’s top-three finish.

United debuted the new third kit in a pre-season friendly against AC Milan, a match they lost 4-2, and remain without a victory wearing the new design. The last time United wore a third kit in a league opener was in 2016-17, when Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney, and Zlatan Ibrahimović scored in a 3-1 victory.

Carrick will be without several first-team players for this fixture: Benjamin Sesko has not recovered from a shin injury and will not play. Mason Mount and Matthijs de Ligt are doubts due to injury issues, while backup goalkeepers Tom Heaton and Karl Darlow are also unavailable. Manuel Ugarte is out for the season due to a cruciate ligament injury.

Both Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos are expected to make their competitive debuts in midfield, and Ayden Heaven is expected to start at centre-back alongside Harry Maguire.
