Manikanta Hoblidhar won the men’s 100m at the 65th National Open Athletics Championships on Friday, October 9 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, clocking 10.25 seconds. The second day of the meet staged 14 finals across track and field, producing close finishes in sprint, middle-distance and combined-events competitions.

The programme on October 9 featured a mix of track finals, field events, race walks and the mixed 4x100m relay, with Manpreet Kaur taking the women’s shot put title and the men’s decathlon reaching its conclusion. Anjali claimed the women’s 400m crown in a tight race, while race walks and relays added to the day’s schedule. Several finals were decided by margins measured in hundredths of a second or single-digit seconds.

In the men’s 100m final Hoblidhar (Karnataka) led the podium in 10.25 seconds, with Lalu Prasad Bhoi (Railway Sports) second in 10.43 and Laukik Melge (SSCB) third in 10.45. Other finalists included Rushiprasad Desai (SSCB) in 10.48.

The men’s 400m produced a narrow finish as Akash Raj topped the final in 46.24, just 0.02 seconds ahead of Vikrant Panchal (46.26); Mijo Kurian took third in 46.45. The women’s 400m saw Anjali win in 53.37, Priya Mohan claim silver in 53.55 and Priya Thakur bronze in 53.56, with the silver and bronze separated by one-hundredth of a second.

Arjun Waskale won the men’s 1500m in 3:43.04, edging Shivam Sharma (3:43.12) and Rahul Baloda (3:43.14), leaving 0.10 seconds between first and third. In the women’s 1500m Ankita finished first in 4:13.18, Lili Das was second in 4:19.05 and Komal Jagadale third in 4:22.67. In the men’s half marathon race walk Suraj Panwar finished in 1:30:48, seven seconds ahead of Deepak Gurjar (1:30:55), while Mokavi Muthurathina won the women’s race walk in 1:45:39 with Munita Prajapati second in 1:45:43.

Yaman Deep Sharma topped the men’s decathlon with 7,068 points, followed by Usaid on 7,005 and Gokul K R on 6,975. Manpreet Kaur won the women’s shot put with a throw of 17.07m, Srishti Vig was second with 16.11m and Rekha third with 15.72m. Sebastian V S led the men’s triple jump with 16.54m; Dharamraj Yadav won the men’s discus with 55.90m. Hurdles winners included Muhammed Lazan VK in the men’s 110m hurdles (13.70s) and Moumita Mondal in the women’s 100m hurdles (13.48s).

Railway Sports closed the day by winning the mixed 4x100m relay in 42.82 seconds, with Delhi second in 43.75 and Haryana third in 43.97. Other podiums included the men’s half marathon race walk top three (Suraj Panwar, Deepak Gurjar, Vishvendra Singh) and the women’s race walk podium (Mokavi Muthurathina, Munita Prajapati, Bhawna Jat).

The championships resume on Saturday, October 10 with 11 finals scheduled, including the men’s and women’s 400m hurdles, high jump, 200m, 800m and long jump finals, the women’s 10,000m, men’s 5000m, men’s javelin throw and the mixed 4x400m relay, while the women’s heptathlon will continue.
