Manu Bhaker finishes fifth in women's 10m air pistol final, misses medal at Asian Games

Manu Bhaker finished fifth in the women's 10m air pistol final at the Asian Games in Nagoya on Wednesday, missing out on a medal after being eliminated in the fourth round of the final.

Bhaker had qualified third for the final with a score of 579-20x, placing just behind China's Choo and Jiang, and carried that form into the medal match. She opened the final with a 50.8 in her first series and stood on 100.3 after two series. Bhaker was India's only shooter to reach the final, with her teammates failing to advance from qualification.

During the elimination stages Bhaker produced successive running totals of 120.4, then 140.4 and 160.7 as competitors were cut one by one. She remained competitive through those stages but could not survive past the fourth elimination round.

Esha Singh and Suruchi Singh did not make the top eight that progress to the final; Esha finished 15th in qualification with 572-12x while Suruchi placed 26th with 568-12x. Only the top eight shooters from qualification advanced to the medal round, leaving both outside the cutoff.

Earlier in the day the trio of Bhaker, Esha and Suruchi finished fourth in the women's 10m air pistol team event, tying on 1719 points with Vietnam and losing the bronze on countback after Vietnam recorded 46 inner-tens to India's 44.

China won the women's 10m air pistol team competition with 1735-56x and South Korea took silver with 1730-55x, while Vietnam were awarded bronze following the countback over India.
